In the Crossed Nicols Method, the whole visual field is ignorantly seen for the black.
The part with the strain is seen for the bright white, when the observation sample is put in, and the part without the strain is seen for the dark black as well as the whole visual field.The bright white discolors it in blues and green, red, etc.,when the strain amount strengthens.

Sample without strain
The whole of sample appears black color similar with visual field. 
Sample with little strain
Outer peripheral region of  sample appears in white.. 
Sample with much strain Region in white in the outer periphery, exists much stress and extends inwardly. Therefore, the white region appears brighter than sample with little strain. 

Rotated Angle 0
X-shaped region in the transmission axis direction of a polarizer or an analyzer appears in blackish color. 
Sample rotated by 45
X-shaped region appears in sensible color in the same direction, irrespective of the direction change of sample. But strain pattern varies. 
Sample rotated by 90
Strain Pattern is the same with sample at the reference position.
